FAQ

Q: What will you teach me that I can't learn on my own?

A: Great question! The short answer is that a professional music tutor will coach you on technique, which is paramount (something a DVD can't do), keep you motivated and excited about music, expose you to many styles and teach you how to read music, tablature, to understand music theory and more. Getting your information and technique tips from a pro is always the best choice in any situation. If you don't understand something, just ask.

Q: How old do I need to be?

A: We offer music tuition for all age groups. Beginners should look at our Junior Singalong Sessions or Encore on Keys. Perfect for Kindergarten and Pre Primary aged children.

Q: How much should I practice?

A: Instead of "practice" let's call it PLAY. Obviously, the more you play; (what your tutor tells you to play) the faster you will notice improvement.

On average, one should play at least 20 minutes a day. But there is no time limit. Motivation to play comes from the desire to play something well. Be patient with yourself!

Q: Do I need my own instrument ?

A: Its best to have your own, however as most musical instruments don't come cheap we can hire you an instrument.

Q: If I haven't practiced, should I come in for my tuition?

A: Absolutely! You must keep your momentum and get back on track.

Q: When do I pay for the Lessons?

A: Payment is made before term commences, in ten week blocks or pro-rata.

Q: How often do I attend tuition?

A: Once a week at the same time, generally for 30 minutes.

Q: If I don't like my tutor, What should I do?

A: While we hope that you like your tutor, sometimes there might be a better match with a different one. Tutors are not offended by this and actually encourage it if it helps you to learn and grow. Just contact our office and we can arrange an alternative tutor for you.

Q: Do you recommend thirty minutes or an hour tuition?

A: Most students can achieve enough direction and instruction in thirty minutes. More advanced players may gain more from hour tuition.

Q: Can I pay for one lesson to see if I like it?

A: We refer to this as an "assessment lesson" as long as you are flexible with the time we will be able to slot in an assessment lesson for you.

Q: How long does it take to get good?

A: This a tricky question because everyone is different though you should be able to notice a marked improvement after a ten week term provided you do the required practice. The more you practice, the better you will become. There are certain basics that you need to learn and fully understand. Once that is achieved, more complicated material will be easier to comprehend. To actually play it will take practice, more for some and less for others.
